OSHA 10 Hour General Safety Awareness Program

The Goal of OSHA 10-hour Training
  • The aim of 10-hour training in general industry workplaces is to educate employees about job-related hazards, including how to identify and avoid them.
  • To this end, 10-hour training typically focuses on basic principles of hazard recognition, evaluation, and control.
  • In addition, employees learn about their rights in the workplace, the responsibilities of employers, and the means by which an employee can file a complaint with OSHA.

OSHA 30 Hour General Safety Awareness Program

The Goal of OSHA 30-hour Training
  • The OSHA 30 Hour General Industry Outreach Training course is a comprehensive safety training program designed for anyone involved in general industry.
  • Specifically designed for safety directors, foremen, and supervisors; the program provides complete information on OSHA compliance issues.
  • In addition to learning about safety and health hazards in the workplace, students will also learn about OSHA, employer responsibilities, and worker rights.

Why should my supervisors and employees attend OSHA 10 Hour and/or 30 Hour Safety Training?

  • The 10-hour course is intended for entry level workers.
  • The 30-hour program is for workers with some safety responsibility.
  • NOTE: Cal/OSHA programs cover the specific changes and difference between Federal and California guidelines

The basic concept of OSHA outreach training is to educate the employee workforce about the hazards that they face in their working environment and how to operate safely within the environment. OSHA, coupled with the efforts of employers, safety and health professionals, unions and advocates to have employees attend OSHA led safety training, has reduced worker deaths by 68% and worker injuries and illnesses by 60%. Translated to time and money, that is a significant impact on a business’s output and profitability.

The Scout Motto of BE PREPARED is the goal of the OSHA Safety training program, which means you are always in a state of awareness readiness to keep yourself and others safe in your working environment. The OSHA outreach training makes employees aware of the hazards that they encounter and how to safely avoid them or operate within them and will know how to avoid serious accidents and injury.

The OSHA Outreach Training Program provides training for workers and employers on the recognition, avoidance, abatement, and prevention of safety and health hazards in workplaces. The program also provides information regarding workers' rights, employer responsibilities, and how to file a complaint. This is a voluntary program and does not meet training requirements for any OSHA standards.

Through this program, workers can attend 10-hour or 30-hour classes delivered by OSHA-authorized trainers. The 10-hour class is intended for entry-level workers, while the 30-hour class is more appropriate for workers with some safety responsibility.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, workplace injuries cost American businesses more than $1 billion per week.  Studies have shown that companies that adequately manage workplace safety and health perform better financially than those that don't.  Employers have a responsibility both to their employees, and to the company as a whole, to make safety a priority. By ensuring a healthy, safe workplace, employers can avoid the medical expenses and lost productivity caused by workplace injury and illness.  Under Section 17 of the Occupational Safety and Health Act, any employer who fails to protect employees' safety and health is subject to OSHA inspection and possible fines.

Safety training is your best line of defense to avoid workplace incidents.  This 10 hour online OSHA course focuses on hazard identification, avoidance, and control and prevention measures.  The training objective of this course is to prepare workers to recognize and prevent hazards at their site.  Through expert instruction, exercises, and tutorials, students learn how to identify, avoid, control, and prevent workplace hazards at a general industry site.

This safety program includes an expertly designed training curriculum, course handbook, easy-to-download 29 CFR 1910 rules, a nationally recognized certificate of achievement, and an OSHA issued pocket identification card.

Creating Your Own Illness and Injury Program (IIPP)

In California, every employer has a legal obligation to provide and maintain a safe and healthful workplace for employees, according to the California Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1973.

As of 1991, a written, effective Injury and Illness Prevention (IIP), Program is required for every California employer.

OSHA’s Safety Awareness Training and the OSHA inspections centers around:
  • The rights you have as a worker under the OSHA rules and regulations
  • How to become more safety aware so you can abate, avoid, and work safely within the hazards of your occupation
  • How to train others under your supervision how to become more safety aware so they can abate, avoid, and work safely within the hazards of your occupation
  • How to plan and prepare your own IIPP (Injury and Illness Prevention Plan) for your company to avoid citations, fines, and lawsuits

After you have completed your OSHA 30 Safety Awareness Training, you will need to write your own IIPP plan and implement it within your company.

In this interactive program, you will learn how to create your own customized IIPP manual including:
  • The objectives of the manual and training
  • What needs to be included in the written plan
  • How to research and include every job classification in your company
  • What to include in your own manual
  • How to delegate responsibilities for the research/writing sections of the manual
  • How to develop and deliver employee training based on the IIPP
  • How to have your completed manuals commercially printed for less than $5.00 each

How to prepare and deliver safety training for your employees and co-workers

Are you a new or experienced trainer looking to develop or strengthen your training expertise?

A critical part of your in-house OSHA and Cal/OSHA training program is creating and delivering presentations to your employees and co-workers on the different aspects of safety in the workplace.

Whether you’re explaining to a new employee how to operate the copy machine or addressing a room full of assembly line workers, you want to give the best presentation you can to make sure that what you have to say is well received, fully understood, and properly implemented.

The material in this program has been expressly developed to help you achieve those goals whether you’re new to the world of presenting or an old hand looking for updated material or just a refresher on the foundational information.

The material is divided into four distinct sections:
  • Part 1 – Understanding yourself and your skills as a presenter
  • Part 2 – Understanding your audience and what it expects of you
  • Part 3 – How to make sure your materials are what the audience needs
  • Part 4 – Current technology and support materials for presentations.

Each part has detailed information, references, and exercises to assist in understanding and implementing the material.

Benefits of this training include:
  • Avoiding misunderstandings
  • Better problem solving
  • More effective decision making
  • Better teamwork
  • Positive Cost Impact

This is a single 8-hour session. The interactive aspect makes it a hands-on learning experience and offers the participants the opportunity to have their individual needs addressed.

Participants will be given the opportunity to create and deliver a short training session, be video recorded, and critiqued at the end of the class. (Participants may request a copy of the video recording for their records at no additional charge.)

Feedback From Our Programs

Great class! Mike is a fun trainer  with lots of information that gets his point across. I'm looking forward to attending the OSHA 30 training early next year. (S.H. - Niagara Bottling LLC)

I’ve been through OSHA trainings before but never one that kept my interest like Mike’s program. Great job!
 (D.H. -
Burlington Coat Factory Warehouse)

I didn’t think that anybody could keep safety topics interesting, interactive, and the audience attentive and laughing for over 30 hours. (J.B. -
DHL)

Mike’s dual background as a professional speaker and his years of experience in safety, manufacturing, and general industry, make his programs unique. I am recommending that our company send all affected employees to his trainings because they’ll probably learn something important. (J.M -
Fender Musical Instruments)

Safety is usually a dull, dry, and boring subject but Mike made it an entertaining and interactive experience. I wish all my seminars were as fun and informative as his. (J.E. -
Horizon Hobby)

Absolute information overload but that was to be expected. Mike’s seminar delivered the material and interesting way and I think I retained more from his program than any other safety program I have attended. He also gave us a manual with lots of resources and web links and even gave us all of the PowerPoint presentations to use in conducting our own in-house safety seminars. I’ve never had a teacher give us all of the materials before. (T.C. -
Ingram Micro Inc)

I came to the OSHA safety seminar because the company sent me and said I had to go. I expected to sleep through most of the program but it was so interesting and interactive that the entire training seemed to go faster than any class I’ve ever been in. (D.M. -
National Distribution Centers (NFI))

We needed the OSHA training for our company and were referred to Mike Rounds. He set up the entire training package, coordinated the time, place, and all logistics, delivered the program, and got the attendees their OSHA pocket cards in record time. It’s obvious that he’s a professional at both safety and delivering a complete package with a minimal hassle. It was well worth the cost and I’m sure we’ll recover it in savings from accidents we don’t have and workers comp claims that we don’t have to make. (D.B.B. -
